30 Years
How It Started
Tom Albanese is a second-generation Italian-American from San Jose, a Santa Clara graduate and a Marine Corps veteran. A Thursday-night bocce game with friends, and a visit to a bocciodromo in Campobasso, the hilltop town his family came from, gave him the idea. He opened Campo di Bocce on University Avenue in 1997 to show this town how much fun the game is.
In Tribute
He did not do it alone. Tom's wife, Maureen Albanese, was instrumental in creating Campo di Bocce. Thirty-five years together, and what the two of them built here still runs the way they built it.
Everyone's Playground
For almost thirty years we have helped some of the biggest companies in the world entertain their guests and their employees. The same eight courts host birthdays, rehearsal dinners, reunions and Sunday afternoons with the family. Everyone is welcome here, and we are glad to have all of you.
Millions Raised
Millions of dollars have been raised here for charities and non-profit organizations. The Madden Mariucci Charity Bocce Tournament alone has raised over ten million.
Thirty Years
The anniversary is 8 February 2027 and the celebration lands on the Saturday of that week, just before Valentine's Day. The build-up starts this September.
Tom and Maureen opened a bocce club with a kitchen attached. Thirty years later, the courts, the food and the people are still what bring guests back.
As we look ahead, we’ll keep building on what has always made Campo special: fresh ideas in the kitchen, great bottles behind the bar and memorable gatherings in every room. The goal is simple: keep Campo welcoming, lively and ready for the families, league players and companies who will walk through our doors for years to come.
Come and See It
The courts are open seven days, the kitchen has been cooking the same recipes since 1997, and the anniversary lands in February 2027.
